1. Introduction 

The Polestar 3 is an all-electric mid-size luxury crossover from Swedish automaker Polestar. It is expected to hit the market in the second half of 2024, showcasing a great focus on performance, luxury, and design.

The Polestar 3 is set to become the first model from the brand to undergo production on two continents. It will aid the company’s expansion efforts across North America, Europe, and Asia.

2. New Features in 2024

The 2024 Polestar 3 features a LiDAR unit that offers a 3D scan of the surroundings to improve its driver-assistance systems. It also has an optional Performance Pack that boosts power to 510 horsepower. Moreover, it has a panoramic roof to enable an air feel in the cabin.

3. Design and Aesthetics: 

A. Exterior design and style 

The Polestar 3 sports a very Volvo-esque appearance with sharp curves and front-to-rear creases. It also has an upward kink at the rear that meets a downward-sloping roofline.

It also features soft-close doors with flush-type door handles that automatically extend whenever the driver walks up to the car. As mentioned, it also comes with a huge panoramic sunroof and frameless heated mirrors.

B. Interior design and materials 

It has a sophisticated cabin with four interior design theme options. An uncluttered dashboard features aluminum trim, a configurable 9-inch electronic instrument cluster, and a 14.5-inch vertically oriented tablet-like infotainment screen.

The Polestar 3’s cabin also sports mood lighting on its floor and a “laser-edged” white ambient illuminated strip throughout the dashboard.

C. Build quality and fit and finish 

The Polestar 3 is made of excellent materials and is high-quality. All its plastic surfaces feel great to the touch. It also has sustainable and welfare-certified Nappa leather seats, offering a very soft and comfortable feel. There are also no reports of major gaps or misalignments between panels, indicating a good build quality.

D. Ergonomics and comfort 

The 2024 Polestar 3 boasts a standard non-leather “bio-attributed” materials upholstery. Up front, there are eight-way power sport seats that are side-bolstered to keep occupants upright through turns.

It also offers heated and ventilated front seats that can also give a massage. Meanwhile, its rear seats are also heated. 

E. Cargo space and storage

The Polestar 3 has 17 cubic feet of storage behind the seats, including 3.1 feet of cargo space under the load floor. It increases to a maximum of 49.8 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded. There is also a small 1.1 cubic-foot “frunk” under the hood.

There are two cupholders available upfront and two others in the back. It also has storage pockets on the front seatbacks.

C. Handling and ride quality 

The Polestar 3 houses its battery pack beneath the passenger compartment, enabling a lower center of gravity. In effect, the model exerts excellent handling.

It also has electric power steering with three performance modes. Moreover, it offers an active air suspension for optimized driving dynamics. The Performance Pack also offers a sport-tuned chassis and 22″ wheels and tires to improve handling capability.

D. Braking performance 

The Polestar 3 features top-quality Brembo brakes that enable quick and sure stopping power. 

E. Regenerative braking

The Polestar 3 also comes with a regenerative braking system that converts braking energy back into power to extend its driving range.

The 2024 Polestar 3 boasts a 9″ electronic instrument cluster and a 14.5″ vertically oriented tablet-like infotainment screen. It has minimal physical buttons to keep the interior clean and clutter-free. It also offers an optional head-up display that projects speed, navigation, and safety warnings.

B. Infotainment system and features 

The Polestar 3 has a 14.5″ touch-screen display at the dashboard’s center. It has a new operating system created with Google and powered by Android Automotive OS.

It offers a wide range of features, including Spotify, YouTube, Google Maps, Waze, EasyPark and more. It also has a “Hey Google” voice-controlled electronic assistant.

C. Smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay, Android Auto) 

The Polestar 3 is expected to come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

D. Over-the-air software updates

It supports over-the-air software updates through the new Android Automotive OS using a built-in 5G internet connection.

Polestar has yet to release the Polestar 3, so it is too early to determine whether it is reliable. Nonetheless, it has excellent materials and a high-quality build, so it can potentially become a reliable model.

B. Maintenance and service requirements 

The Polestar 3 offers complimentary, scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years after delivery, or 31,250 miles ( whichever comes first). It covers exterior cleaning, pick-up, and delivery arranged around the driver’s schedule. 

C. Warranty coverage and options 

The 2024 Polestar 3 also offers a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty for the battery pack and electric motors.

*Unlike other carmakers, Tesla doesn’t disclose all specs in its marketing. These numbers are according to EV Database and verified by official approval filings to the Australian Government.

The Polestar 3 (Long Range Dual Motor / with Performance Pack) boasts a more powerful electric motor with an output of 360 / 380kW compared to the Tesla Model Y RWD Performance. However, the Tesla Model Y accelerates faster at 3.7 seconds.

The 2024 Polestar 3 is undoubtedly an enticing electric SUV, but its worthiness depends on the customers’ preferences. It offers a luxurious interior with a wide range of technology features like a large touchscreen and ADAS. It also delivers a long driving range and fast charging capabilities.

11. Conclusion

The 2024 Polestar 3 is a very promising electric SUV with remarkable acceleration and a comfortable ride. Its premium interior, along with its enormous central touchscreen infotainment system, also adds to its overall value. 

Overall, the 2024 Polestar 3 is a competitive electric SUV, especially for those who prioritize performance and a luxurious interior. However, other models might be a better option if you value cargo space and prefer a lower price tag.
