NIO denied rumors of discontinuing older models for sale. Still, inventory cleanup of those designs is nearing completion, paving the way for it to begin selling newer models.
NIO is going to be completed inventory clearance for its NT 1.0-based ES8, ES6, and EC6 models, according to local media outlet Jiemian, half a month after the application of car buying incentives.
Few show cars are still available
According to an NIO salesperson in Shanghai, there are still a few display cars and existing cars accessible, but they may be sold out in a few days.
There currently need to be vehicles available in Beijing for these three models. If customers want to purchase them, the company must send them from its Hefei plant, according to the salesperson.
According to an NIO salesperson in Beijing, the older ES8, ES6, and EC6 models have been discontinued for two months and are now out of stock in the city.
Jiemian said that many units of the older ES8, ES6, and EC6 remained in stock in Beijing on February 2.
We received an urgent notice yesterday that there is only the last and limited number of existing vehicles of the older models left nationwide, and they will basically be sold out by the end of this week

Limited stocks for specific models
A sales associate in Hefei, Anhui province, where NIO’s manufacturing is located, said there are still some older ES8, ES6, and EC6 vehicles available, with delivery within a week at the most if purchased now.
However, the quantity of such vehicles is limited, with only a few more lower-trim versions of the ES series left in the country, according to sales.
On February 2, some local media outlets reported that NIO offered price drops and special offers of up to 100,000 yuan ($14,580) on specific models to increase sales.
NIO later responded, saying that while the company did offer discounts for a limited number of show cars and stock cars, the claim of significant price cuts was false.
NIO announced its official purchase subsidy program on February 3, which includes subsidies for NT 1.0 platform models, extra discounts for stock cars, and small monetary discounts for NT 2.0 platform models.
NIO currently offers the older ES8, ES6, and EC6 models based on the NT 1.0 platform and the ES7, ET7, and ET5 models based on the NT 2.0 platform.
It introduced two new models, the EC7 coupe SUV, and the new ES8, at NIO Day 2022 on December 24, 2022, with deliveries beginning in May and June 2023, respectively.
NIO to remove older models
Some local auto media reported yesterday that NIO released an urgent internal notice that sales of the ES8, ES6, and EC6 based on the NT 1.0 platform would cease on February 16.
According to these reports, these older models will be removed from NIO showrooms across the country, test cars will be resigned, and sold to a single company or entity.
An NIO spokesperson told CnEVPost today that yesterday’s media reports were false but that the company’s older cars are being phased out of the market as intended.
According to the spokesperson, the 2022 ES8, ES6, and EC6 are no longer in personalized production, but there are still a few display cars and existing cars for sale.
