Tesla’s next-gen Superchargers V4 has now reached the Asian market. According to the local publication The Standard, commercial real estate giant Hysan Development officially opened three V4 Superchargers for Tesla electric models in Hong Kong.
The move is part of the country’s effort to expand its electric vehicle charging network to support the shift to e-mobility.
Tesla’s Supercharger network in Causeway Bay
Teslarati noted that the American EV giant currently has 165 Supercharger stalls in Causeway Bay, including the three new V4 units.
V3 Superchargers contributed twelve units, while free-to-use DC chargers accounted for the majority at 150 units.
The addition of the next-gen Superchargers enabled the site to advance as the leading charging center in Hong Kong Island.
What’s special about V4 Superchargers?
Local reports suggest that Tesla V4 Superchargers can replenish 275 km (around 171 miles) driving range in just 15 minutes.
It also has a maximum output of 250 kW per EV, like its predecessor V3 Superchargers. However, Tesla plans to gradually upgrade its power efficiency to surpass V3’s current capacity.
Moreover, it also offers longer cables than V3. It primarily aids non-Tesla drivers as most cars have charging ports at different parts of their body.
It is also worth noting that V4 Superchargers charge customers the same fee as the V3 stalls. It apparently starts at HK$3.05 to HK$4.05 per kWh in the 4 a.m.-12 a.m. period.
Notably, some V4 Supercharges in the US and Europe also feature CCS adapters and credit card readers for appless transactions.
Hong Kong’s EV charging development plans
The government of Hong Kong announced plans to equip 150,000+ parking lots with an unspecified number of electric vehicle chargers by 2025.
It also aims to halt new sales of fossil fuel-based cars by 2035. Tesla’s presence in the country, including its EV models and Supercharging network, will certainly keep on boosting the country’s sales of battery-powered models. According to the report, the region currently has only 40,000 EV registrations.
In fact, Tesla currently has 351 Superchargers throughout 70 charging stations in HK. It also operates 855 DC fast chargers in 129 sites.
