Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETHZ) and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences students have just bested the current fastest-accelerating electric car in the Guinness World Record with their hand-built model.
The all-electric race car “Mythen” accelerated from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in a sub-second, as shown in the official test video.
Guinness World Record’s previous title holder for the fastest-accelerating EV
According to Car Scoops, the previous record holder in the Guinness World Record was the Foerderverein GreenTeam Uni Stuttgart e.V team’s electric car from Germany.
The EV accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.461 seconds during its September 23, 2022 testing.
Now, the Mythen EV ultimately snatched the crown with its unprecedented 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration in just 0.956 seconds. It covered a 12.3-meter (40.4 feet) track at Switzerland Innovation Park in Duebendorf.
This record will undoubtedly make it harder for future challengers to beat.
“Now, Guinness World Records has confirmed that Mythen broke the previous world acceleration record for electric vehicles. This beats the previous world record of 1.461 seconds, set in September 2022 by a team from the University of Stuttgart by more than a third.”

Mythen EV development
The Swiss students are all members of the Academic Motorsports Club Zurich (AMZ), which explains their notable enthusiasm for the project.
Approximately 30 students from the AMZ tirelessly worked to develop all parts needed for the Mythen EV “from the printed circuit boards (PCBs) to chassis and the battery.”
The Mythen EV is reportedly 140 kilograms (309 pounds) heavy, with a maximum output of 240 kW (326 hp).
According to VOA, the driver of the Mythen EV was a friend of the developers who was chosen owing to her “light body weight.” Ms. Kate Maggetti was also eager to “take on the challenge,” AMZ Head of Motor Yann Bernard indicated.
“Working on the project in addition to my studies was very intense. But even so, it was a lot of fun working with other students to continually produce new solutions and put into practice what we learned in class. And, of course, it is an absolutely unique experience to be involved in a world record.”

What’s the big deal?
The Swiss students’ successful development of the world’s fastest-accelerating electric car demonstrates EVs’ strong technological capabilities than traditional vehicles.
It also set a new standard that would encourage EV players to continue improving their models’ performance, especially in acceleration.
Moreover, it also showed students’ potential to further revolutionize the automotive industry with their honed expertise and knowledge in EV technology.

The Mythen EV is remarkably 1.5 seconds faster than the popular Tesla Model S Plaid’s approximately 2.5 seconds record. It is also 1 second faster than the newly launched Rimac Nivera hypercar’s 1.81-second record. It is also worth noting that this latest record is already the AMZ team’s third record-breaking performance following the 2014 and 2016 acceleration time results.
