Porsche confirmed that the all-electric Porsche Macan will be delayed until 2024, according to Drive Tesla Canada.
Due to a software development issue, it slows and prevents production from beginning. The confirmation follows after leaked info in July that the Macan and the Audi Q6 e-tron could be delayed by a year.
Automotive News Europe reported in July that the Macan, the Audi Q6 e-tron, could potentially be delayed due to VW Group’s subsidiary, CARIAD, being behind in software development.
In addition, as part of the IPO last month, the company confirmed the delay.
“The Group is currently developing, together with CARIAD and Audi, the E3 1.2 platform for deployment in the all-electric Macan BEV, which the Group plans to begin delivering in 2024,” the report said,
“…in part due to delays at CARIAD and the Group in developing the E3 1.2 platform, the Group has already had to delay the start of production (SOP) of the Macan BEV.”
Furthermore, Porsche warned of longer delays due to the E3 1.2 software platform being under development. According to the manufacturer, there is “a risk that the Group will not achieve its existing cycle plan for new vehicles on schedule, particularly BEV models of the 718 and Cayenne.”
As the carmaker noted, it may also affect other models. However, Porsche hopes to produce amounts of Macan EV and ICE versions equally.
Porsche further states that the E3 1.2 platform’s successful development is an essential prerequisite for the Macan EV’s start of production and market launch. Notably, it may also be needed for developing future models in the coming years, according to Topspeed.
The Premium Platform Electric (PPE) was developed by Porsche and Audi, with the Macan EV as one of the first models on the platform. On the other hand, Audi has not yet confirmed a delay on its model Q6 e-tron.
