America’s leading automaker Tesla has long been in the process of developing an extremely potent AI training platform, the Dojo supercomputer. The company believes that this technology will aid its goal of achieving full autonomy across its electric vehicle lineup.
Now, another hint on the progress of the Dojo project has once again emerged, coming from the CEO himself. Elon Musk recently liked a Twitter post from a Tesla fan, which suggested that the Dojo Supercomputer is “now online and handling production workloads.”
Recent progress
In late June, Tesla AI posted a series of information about the AI training platform, including an interesting timeline. It revealed that the company expects to start the Dojo production in July, a major step forward in Tesla’s quest for an actual “full self-driving” technology.
Interestingly, a Tesla fan replied to the series of Tweet to confirm the July timeline, to which CEO Musk replied:
Interestingly, CEO Musk’s remark that Dojo has been online for “a few months” already is still more than a week away from July, which Tesla set for the technology’s production. That said, Tesla may have tested the technology before starting official production.
About Dojo
As mentioned, the Dojo supercomputer is a powerful AI training platform developed to aid Tesla vehicles have full self-driving capabilities.
In hindsight, Tesla initially introduced the Dojo supercomputer concept on AI Day 2021. At that time, the automaker claimed that the technology has numerous features like simulation architecture, which can support other applications.
“This is not intended to be just limited to Tesla cars. Those of you who’ve seen the full self-driving beta can appreciate the rate at which the Tesla neural net is learning to drive. And this is a particular application of AI, but I think there’s more applications down the road that will make sense.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk
The Dojo supercomputer can process enormous amounts of crucial data and do complex AI and machine learning computations.
Unfortunately, neither Tesla nor its CEO shared the official technical specifications of the high-tech supercomputer.
Nonetheless, reports suggest it can process and evaluate Tesla EVs’ sensor data during real-world driving settings. That said, it is indeed a powerful technology that may push Tesla’s Autopilot and FSD projects to advance. It will improve the system’s decision-making and overall performance, improving its safety and reliability.
