Indian automaker Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to join the domestic electric vehicle segment with the launch of as many as six electric models by 2030. The first EV is expected to arrive by 2024 or 2025, Car Blog India reports.

The company will reportedly base the new Maruti EV on the eVX concept as it aims to concentrate on premium zero-emission products. For those unaware, the automaker first showed off the eVX concept at the 2023 Auto Expo.

What is currently known about Maruti’s EV plans?

As mentioned, the first Maruti EV is due on sale by the end of 2024 or early 2025. It will reportedly utilize Toyota’s 27 PL architecture emanated from the global 40 PL.

Notably, this special platform allows the car’s wheels to be moved outward to make more room for the passenger. Moreover, its roofline will probably resemble that of a coupe. It is also expected to have single and twin electric motor configurations. Meanwhile, the planned electric SUV is anticipated to offer an approximately 550 km driving range.

Apart from these, Maruti is also reported to develop a WagonR-based affordable EV. Furthermore, it will also produce an electric counterpart of the Fronx compact SUV coupe and the Swift.

Not only that, but Maruti is also developing the Huster EV and probably a Grand Vitara-based SUV. The company will also produce a Toyota Innova Hycross-based C-segment MPV.

The report further noted Suzuki aims to launch an entry-level electric CV in the Japanese market soon. Interestingly, it contains eight new two-wheelers and some hybrid cars.
