Indian automaker Mahindra, through its local arm, announced that it would launch at least one of the company’s five new EVs in Australia.

James Halliwell, marketing manager of Mahindra Automotive Australia, was the one to deliver the news at the local media debut of the company’s Scorpio SUV. He asserted that Mahindra would assess which models will hit the Australian roads by 2025 or 2016, CarExpert reports.

Apart from that, Irrigator reports that the Indian automaker plans to expand its dealers in Australia from the current 50 to 60 in the following 12 months.

Meanwhile, the other four will join the lineup in the subsequent years. Unfortunately, the company has not yet announced which model is undergoing evaluation for the Australian launch.

Notably, Mahindra is also selling an electric counterpart of the XUV400 model.

Going back, these upcoming Mahindra e-SUVs will fall under the following two new sub-brands:

  • XUV.e, which claims to “build upon the Mahindra legacy” and has a copper-colored variation of the automaker’s current Twin Peaks emblem
  • BE, which will provide EVs with a more “audacious” style

Mahindra will produce these upcoming EVs at its new Chakan production plant in India. The automaker has reportedly allocated $3 million to this new factory, which is currently under construction.

In addition, these EVs will be equipped with the following technologies:

  • Electric motors
  • Battery system components
  • Battery cells employed in VW Group’s MEB architecture EVs
  • 60-80kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries
  • Inglo modular platform

The Inglo platform can enable up to 175kW fast-charging capacity and V2L features. It will also support either 170kW-210kW RWD or 250kW-290kW AWD powertrains. The latter option can accelerate from 0-100km/h times in just 5-6 seconds.

Unfortunately, there are currently no available details about the range.
