India’s leading SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), prepares for the electric era as it announced EV partnership expansion with Volkswagen (VW) to accelerate India’s EV adoption.

Mahindra & Mahindra revealed the five new electric SUVs it plans to start developing on 2024 with the use of Volkswagen’s EV components.

M&M and VW signed a term sheet that commits VW to supply electric components for a new line of Mahindra electric SUVs. The agreement extends the automaker’s initial deal in May.

They also agreed that Mahindra’s “Born Electric Platform” will use Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive kit (MEB) components, including electric motors, battery cells, and system components.

VW’s CEO Thomas Schmall said, “We are happy that we have identified a larger scope of collaboration between our two companies. Together, Volkswagen and Mahindra can contribute significantly to the electrification of India, a huge automotive market with ambitious climate protection commitments.”

India announced during the United Nations Glasgow Climate Change Conference (COP26) that all new car sales starting in 2035 will have zero emissions. With VW’s MEB Platform, Mahindra can increase its market share, and India can achieve its sustainable auto sector goal.\
