London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) announced on March 7 that the TX electric taxis outpaced the diesel TX4s as the most prevalent black cab in service. Notably, this progress marks the first time electrified black cabs beat diesel vehicles since TX’s inception in 2018.

“We are witnessing a significant tipping point in the push towards cleaner transportation, with the TX overtaking the diesel-powered TX4 as the cab of choice in London.”

LEVC CEO Alex Nan

TX taxi’s footprint in London

LEVC claims that its TX taxi is the world’s most advanced electrified black cab. Per the press release, the EV now accounts for over 40% of London’s entire black cab fleet, with more than 6,000 units deployed in the city.

Unfortunately, the company has not provided diesel-powered TX4 data for comparison.

We’re welcoming in the new year with a ground-breaking new chapter which puts us in pole position in the race towards the future.

Remarkably, the beneficial impact the TX is having on air quality is growing along with sales. The electric TX taxi has driven over 534 million miles worldwide thanks to its ground-breaking eCity technology. The company further claims that it has averted the emission of 162,000 tonnes of CO2 since its debut in 2018.

“Since LEVC launched the revolutionary TX taxi, it has successfully delivered an unrivalled sustainable mobility solution, perfectly suited for urban environments. With each new TX on the road, we are preventing thousands of tonnes of harmful emissions, helping LEVC CEO Alex Nan to create healthier and happier cities.”
