A Porsche Boxster EV test car charging has been spotted, highlighting the brand’s future offerings.
Porsche is developing its next-generation electric vehicle platform. Many expect the premium German brand’s next-gen EVs to be an incredible leap in innovation, with a 900-volt architecture underpinning the drivetrain and numerous performance upgrades.
Along with these enhancements, a Porsche Boxster EV test vehicle demonstrates that more of the company’s body styles will join the Taycan sedan.
The upcoming electric Boxster
The Porsche test vehicle, which has been noticed several times across Europe, was most recently seen charging up at an Ionity station. Photos of the convertible were then shared on Twitter, showing a refreshed and more aggressive “Boxster of the future.”
Porsche enthusiasts desiring an electric vehicle for the longest time had very few options.
While the Porsche Taycan sedan and “shooting brake” offer a variety of trims and selections, many have lamented the absence of an electric coupe or convertible; clearly, this is about to change.
Despite the highly informative pictures of the vehicle taken today, very little is known about the forthcoming electric Boxster, but we can draw some solid conclusions.
The new car will undoubtedly be based on Porsche’s upcoming PPE platform, bringing 900-volt architecture, a new motor design, suspension upgrades, and much more to the convertible option.
Second, because the Boxster has traditionally been the premium automaker’s “budget” offering, it is likely to come standard with a single-motor RWD system, with the option of a dual-motor AWD system available as an upgrade.
Since pricing details have not been published, numerous predictions place the “entry-level” Porsche at around $80,000.
Furthermore, while it is unclear whether the Boxster will be released before the Macan EV, both vehicles are expected to arrive on dealer lots by 2025.
Porsche next-gen platform upgrades
However, the return of Porsche’s legendary convertible model line is not the only factor to be excited about.
The 718 GT4 ePerformance, a track vehicle seen at racing events around the world, is another Porsche test vehicle that has been making the rounds, indicating that a valid electric 911 could follow the Boxster’s introduction with even better performance.
With this and other advancements coming to Porsche’s next-generation platform, the German automaker is poised to launch a jaw-dropping lineup that could finally rival Tesla’s technological prowess.
This continued investment in EV technology will lead to an improved electric vehicle ownership experience for everyone, not just sportscar drivers.
After hugely successful IPO last year, Porsche is currently riding high on Taycan success.
