Chinese electric automaker BYD, through its Asia Pacific arm, held a special event last week at the Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel to officially disclose the Dolphin’s pricing and specification details.
The BYD Dolphin’s debut in Hong Kong marks the company’s other penetration into a new key right-hand drive market.
Pricing
The standard range BYD Dolphin’s base price in Hongkong is $A37,340. Meanwhile, the extended-range model starts at $A46,100, excluding any add-ons, The Driven reports.
Considering Hong Kong’s closeness to BYD’s home market and production hub China, the EVs‘ shipping fee would be much less expensive than in other foreign markets like Australia.
Specs
As mentioned, the BYD Dolphin will have standard and extended-range variants in Hong Kong. According to the report, the SR model will have a 45 kWh BYD blade battery and a 70 kW front-mounted motor.
On the other hand, the extended-range variant will be equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack, which generates a driving range of up to 490 km (NEDC). It will also feature a 150 kW all-electric motor, similar to the Australian-spec Atto 3 model.
Design
Inside the BYD Dolphin, standard and extended-range variants come with a 12.8-inch rotatable screen and a smaller 5-inch screen behind the steering wheel. However, the panoramic glass roof is only standardly available on the extended range variant.
Exterior-wise, the EV will apparently offer the following body paints:
- White
- Grey
- Purple
- Pink
BYD apparently also offers two-tone paint options for the Dolphin EV, but it will surely come with an additional price.

The excitement among EV enthusiasts is undoubtedly growing as more Dolphin appearances are reported in Australia as well. It is also worth noting that the BYD Dolphin debut in another RHD market like HK is encouraging, as it could attract more EVs launches.
According to BYD’s official Hong Kong website, the Dolphin will likely hit the market by the end of the year.
