The Polestar 2 is a worthy rival of the popular Tesla Model 3. It is indeed a great pick for a compact, competitive EV.
Despite its size, it has an enormous cargo space. However, its maximum range is relatively lower than most of its competitors.
Notably, Polestar launched the 2 as a 2021 model. The 2023 model year received numerous upgrades.
Performance
Single motor variant
The Polestar 2 is equipped with a single electric motor, which powers the front wheels. It also has two battery size options: Standard Range and Long Range.
It can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 7.5 seconds, per What Car‘s test.
As for the range, the Standard Range variant of the Polestar 2 is equipped with a 67kWh battery, claiming 297 miles of range between chargers. However, it is apparently not feasible in real-world driving.
The Long Range variant with a single motor has a claimed range of 341 miles. However, it only demonstrated the 220 to 250 range on What Car’s test.
Dual motor variant
Interestingly, it also has a more expensive dual-motor variant. It has an additional electric motor on the rear axle, which enables four-wheel drive. Apart from that, it gets a Long Range battery.
It has an acceleration time of 0 to 60mph in just 4.5 seconds, according to What Car’s test.
On the other hand, the dual-motor version has an official range of 301 miles. However, it will rely on your practice in exploring the acceleration times and the external temperature, given that EV batteries are more reliable in warm weather.
However, the dual-motor variant also comes with a Performance pack option, enabling a 469bhp. It reduces the EV’s acceleration time to just 4.2 seconds.
Moreover, it also has an adjustable Ohlins suspension, maintaining the weight of the Polestar 2.
However, driving the Polestar 2 tend to be uncomfortable. It would shake you too much, even with minimal road bumps.
Interior
The driver’s seat aligns perfectly with the pedals and the steering wheel. It also has numerous electric adjustments, such as lumbar support. Meanwhile, the memory function is optionally included in the “Plus Pack.”
The door mirrors and steering wheel angles can also be adjusted conveniently through buttons. It also has a 12.3 inches digital instrument display for relevant details, including speed, etc.
The Polestar 2 also comes equipped with the following:
- front and rear parking sensors (standard)
- rear-view camera (standard)
- 360-degree camera (optional included in the Pilot Pack)
Furthermore, it has good front visibility. It is also equipped with standard-fit bright LED headlights and high-beam assist in aiding you in night driving.
As for the center console, the Polestar 2 boasts an 11.0 inches touchscreen infotainment system. It supports Android and Apple CarPlay.
The Android capability operates like Android Auto, which supports the following features:
- Google Maps
- Google Assistant (for natural speech voice control)
Apart from that, the Polestar 2 also offers a standard eight-speaker stereo system as standard. Meanwhile, the upgraded 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is optional that is included in the Plus Pack.
Passenger & boot space
The front of the Polestar 2 offers sufficient space for storage, such as cupholders, a cubby, and door bins.
However, its boot space is relatively small for 6-footer people. There is also a small legroom.
The floor also has a large bump, causing discomfort for central rear passengers.
Nonetheless, its boot space can fit seven carry-on-sized suitcases. It also has additional storage below the main boot and another smaller boot below the bonnet.
Furthermore, it has a 60/40 split feature in its rear seatbacks.
Exterior
The Polestar 2 is a relatively small car. It has a square-like shape, making it appear like a compact-sized EV.
