Chinese electric automaker XPeng confirmed plans to release the new X9 all-electric MPV on January 1 next year, laitimes reports. It apparently intends to hold a launch event on New Year’s Day to formally introduce the new model in its lineup.
“The launch date of tomorrow’s starship Xpeng X9 is set for January 1, 2024, opening up X possibilities of life with you.”
XPeng announced on its social media platforms
In hindsight, the XPeng X9 initially had its debut at the 2023 Guangzhou Auto Show on November 17. The Chinese EV maker opened pre-sales for the new model, starting at RMB 388,000 yuan ($54,540).
Exterior design
The XPeng X9 is an electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that is 5,293 mm long, 1,988 mm wide, and 1,785 mm tall. It also has a 3,160 mm wheelbase, based on XPeng’s recent announcement. Impressively, the automaker employs Guangzhou Hongtu’s 12,000T integrated giga casting machine for the X9’s production, reducing the model’s weight by 19% compared to the traditional body structure.
It features a distinct design from the other XPeng EVs due to its sharper lines. However, it also offers the signature through-type daytime running lights and split headlight clusters.
The lower front fascia sports a gradient honeycomb layout and bezel-less styling elements to enable a more immersive viewing experience.
The models’ A, B, C, and D pillars are black, while the roof has the same color as the body to offer a floating roof layout.
“The X9 exemplifies our dedication to innovation as we strive to make XPENG’s industry-leading smart EV technology and state-of-the-art design craftsmanship appealing to a wider range of progressively individualized consumer needs. In the face of an increasingly competitive NEV market, we are unwavering in our commitment to delivering next-generation, Smart EV experiences through our full-stack in-house technology development, smart manufacturing and comprehensive sales and service network.”

Interior features
Inside, the new XPeng X9 follows the brand’s Xiaopeng family design. Therefore, it also has a full LCD instrument, a large central control screen, and a steering wheel.
It offers the XOS Dimensity intelligent cockpit system, which aims to aid the “human-machine co-driving era.” Its central control screen is bigger than that of the Xpeng G9 and allows a split-screen display.
It has a 2+2+3 seating configuration with small tables and electric adjustment features in the second row. Meanwhile, the third-row seats offer a one-button electric folding to enlarge the platform for the trunk.
Power and performance
The XPeng X9 will offer single and dual-motor variants. According to CnEVPost, the single-motor variant can generate a 235 kW maximum power. Meanwhile, the more powerful dual-motor variant can reach 135 kW.
The base variant will use a lower-cost lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery chemistry with 84.5 kWh capacity. It can enable a 610 km CLTC-estimated driving range.
On the other hand, the longer-range variant uses a 101.5 kWh li-ion ternary battery pack. It can apparently enable the single motor-equipped model to hit a 702 km CLTC-estimated driving range. The figure declines to 640 km for the dual-motor variant.
Remarkably, the new XPeng X9 has a rear-wheel steering with a 10.8-meter turning diameter. XPeng boasts that it is the smallest in its class. It also offers smart driving and 800 V fast charging features.
Xpeng has yet to reveal the official pricing of the new X9 and its available variants. We can expect to learn more about this at the launch event on January 1. The arrival of the new XPeng X9 will undoubtedly make the Chinese electric vehicle market even more competitive. The model’s high-tech features and remarkable power and performance can significantly attract local customers to consider shifting away from their traditional cars to all-electric MPVs like the X9.
