Electric automaker XPeng, through its eVTOL subsidiary AeroHT, has officially announced plans to begin the mass production of its modular flying car in the fourth quarter of 2025 during the CES 2024 event in Las Vegas.
Notably, the event kicked off on January 8 and will end on January 12.
Land Aircraft Carrier
XPeng announced at the special event in Las Vegas its new 6×6 all-wheel drive EV with an eVTOL aircraft in its rear called “Land Aircraft Carrier,” according to Electrek.
As mentioned, it will undergo mass production as early as 2025. Before that, the Chinese eVTOL developer aims to officially open reservations for this new modular EV/eVTOL in the fourth quarter of 2024.
According to XPeng, the Land Aircraft Carrier has already passed all the prerequisite tests under its R&D validation phase.
Ground Module and Air Module
XPeng AeroHT outlined that the Land Aircraft Carrier will have two parts, including the Ground Module and the Air Module. The Ground Module enables the flying car to serve as a typical battery-electric vehicle. It can carry 4 to 5 passengers with an extended-range electric powertrain. It will also offer a three-axle, six-wheel setup to support 6×6 all-wheel drive and rear-wheel steering.
On the other hand, the Air Module releases the eVTOL characteristics of the Land Aircraft Carrier. It is an all-electric piloted aircraft that can vertically take off/land and take ow-altitude flights.
Impressively, its electric propulsion system adheres to the single-point failure safety standards. It can also support manual and autonomous flight modes. In addition, it features a 270° panoramic two-person cockpit to enable a wide view.
About XPeng AeroHT
AeroHT is the EVTOL business unit of XPeng. It has already launched tens of thousands of safe flights since 2013 to achieve its goals of delivering electric aircraft models at scale.
In hindsight, it debuted its seventh-gen flying car during XPeng’s annual 1024 Tech Day in 2022. Impressively, it is a true electric vehicle that can drive on land and also fly into the sky.
It also introduced two new “flying car” concepts, including an updated version of the above-mentioned seventh-gen flying car.
XPeng AeroHT has yet to disclose the official pricing of the Land Aircraft Carrier flying car despite announcing plans to open pre-orders this year. Nonetheless, XPeng founder He Xiaopeng recently estimated it to price about RMB 1 million in the segment ($140,500). We can expect to know more about the final pricing as soon as the company releases the model’s final design.
