Kia has reported that its international vehicle sales in February improved by almost 15 percent year over year to 254,027 units, which is pretty significant growth.
Over 485,000 vehicles have been sold by the company so far this year, which is an increase of almost 12 percent compared to sales at this point in 2022.
Another good news is that the South Korean manufacturer increased sales of all-electric vehicles based on the E-GMP platform.
Kia EV6 sales increased by 30%
The all-electric Kia EV6 recorded 8,824 wholesale sales (which are closely related to production) during the month of December. It is a 30 percent increase over the same month a year ago and the second-highest monthly result ever.
The total number reflects 1,951 sales made in South Korea in addition to 6,873 sales made abroad (close to the record of 6,919 in January). Kia has been exporting more EV6 vehicles than ever in a few months.
Wholesale orders for the Kia EV6 have already surpassed 15,700 units in 2023. (up 19 percent year-over-year).
Kia’s retail sales
Kia lists 3,980 retail sales of the Kia EV6 beyond South Korea in its quarterly sales data report, including 1,294 in the United States.
The Kia Niro EV and Kia Soul EV saw year-over-year declines in retail sales outside of South Korea: 3,373 (down 33 percent) and 140, respectively (down 76 percent).
Last month’s Kia BEV sales:
· Outside of South Korea, the EV6 has 3,980 retail sales (8,824 wholesale, 1,951 in South Korea, and 6,873 exported)
· Outside of South Korea, Niro EV has 3,373 retail sales.
· 140 retail sales outside of South Korea for the Soul EV
· Total: at least 9,444 (a 20% decrease year on year), or 3.7% of the total volume
· Data from South Korea (EV6) and overseas retail sales (EV6, Niro EV, Soul EV)
Sadly, Kia does not report the number of PHEVs that it sells.
InsideEVs reports that the company sold over 130,000 fully electric cars in the year 2022.
In the meantime, everyone around the globe is keeping a close eye out for the upcoming E-GMP model, the Kia EV9.
