Swedish automaker Volvo announced Tuesday the impending arrival of its new all-electric Volvo EX30 SUV next month.
Along with the announcement, Volvo has also provided a 30-second video teaser, indicating that “something small is coming.”
Remarkably, the next-gen EX90 SUV has not even arrived yet, but the automaker is already planning to release the follow-up.
Volvo to debut the EX30
Volvo will officially debut the new EX30 globally on June 7 at 13:30 CEST. At the same time, the automaker will start accepting pre-orders from interested customers in selected markets.
Unfortunately, Volvo has not disclosed much about the mysterious e-SUV apart from hinting that it will be “small.”
“Thinking small is one of our biggest ideas.”

Despite the small size, EX30 will keep its SUV form.
Furthermore, the brand’s traditional vertical taillights, a sculpted hood, and what looks to be a full-width light bar connecting the headlights are all evident in the EX30’s teaser video.
Inside, it features a light-colored seat with the brand’s trademark Swedish flag. There are also brief glances of the front and back illumination.
The EX30 will be Volvo’s second EV to carry the brand’s new naming style after the 2024 EX90 was unveiled last fall.
Volvo targets young drivers
With this EV, Volvo targets younger car customers who have not yet relocated to the suburbs to establish families. Expect something adventurous and sporty that is also small enough to parallel park on a city road.
It aligns with the statement of Volvo’s CEO last year during the initial announcement of the brand’s planned EVs.
“Take a smaller SUV, which is more for city driving, maybe for first-time buyers.
Gen Z — 18-, 19-year-olds — is our next market. We don’t talk to Gen Z right now, the brand has never really spoken to that younger demographic. We are absolutely heading in that direction.”

The Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Kia EV6 will likely be strong competitors for the EX30. Volvo will also have to compete with several new models, such as the Honda Prologue, Polestar 3, and the Chevy Equinox and Blazer EVs.
Before the EX30 is formally unveiled, expect more details to surface over the following month.
