Voltpost commercializes lamppost EV chargers

Voltpost proudly announced the commercialization of its curbside electric vehicle charging solution. It has started installing these innovative lampost chargers in key metro areas, including New York, Chicago, Detroit, and others, this spring.

For context, Voltpost tweaks conventional lampposts into AC Level 2 EV charging points. Impressively, the technology allows minimal installation cost and time. It also reduces maintenance expenses and environmental footprint.

Voltpost’s curbside chargers

The American electric vehicle charging company boasts that its curbside chargers are both modular and upgradable. It offers two to four charging ports, a built-in retractable cable management system of up to 20 feet, and a wide range of safety features.

In addition, it also integrates a proprietary plug called ChargePlug (SAE J1772 standard). Its charging cable is at a 90˚ angle to the electric vehicle socket to “ensure that the cable does not present a hazard to adjacent traffic and pedestrians.”

Moreover, Voltpost’s lamppost electric vehicle chargers also come with a mobile app that enables customers to locate the nearest charging points. The mobile app also offers the following capabilities:

  • Make charger reservations
  • Track charging events
  • Consumption-based payment, etc.

The private stakeholders also have the Charge Station Management System (CSMS) that enables them to remotely monitor the chargers and set prices.

Fast installation

Voltpost claims that it can install a new charging point in just 1-2 hours. It does not require construction, trenching, or comprehensive permitting processes as it is only an additional part of the already existing infrastructure.

Voltpost developed a pilot charging point under the New York City Department of Transportation (DOT) Studio program. Impressively, the installation process only took an hour. The charging point’s operation also boasts the highest uptime of any service in the pilot program.

All that said, Voltpost’s lamppost charging platform is suitable for urban electric vehicle drivers in multi-unit housing who have no access to dedicated parking spaces. It can substantially aid New York in its efforts to install 10,000 curbside chargers for electric vehicles.
