Japanese legacy automaker Toyota has just unveiled an all-electric concept for its popular delivery van, Toyota HiAce, ahead of its debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.
The new Global HiAce BEV Concept’s production model will likely hit showrooms by 2025, Drive reports, citing Japanese reports.
Exterior design
The electric HiAce concept features a modern closed-off front fascia. It appears to have a blank grille panel and no visible headlights.
It also has black wheel covers and body-colored tail light surrounds. The concept’s passenger and rear barn doors also feature BEV badges.
In addition, it has ‘Global HiAce and ‘BEV Concept decals, while the tail-light surrounds are colored to match the vehicle’s body.
As for the dimensions, the electric van will apparently have a similar measurement as the latest HiAce’s long-wheelbase variant:
- Length: 5280mm
- Width: 1950mm
- Height: 1990mm
- Wheelbase Length: 3210mm
- Cargo Area Width: 1715mm
- Cargo Area Height: 1270mm
Interior design
The Global HiAce BEV Concept only has one seat inside to maximize load area. According to Toyota, the model can carry a maximum of 3.5 meters long items.
It also features a bigger infotainment screen based on the company’s new-gen software. Apart from that, it offers a widescreen digital instrument cluster. It also has a similar rotary-dial shifter as the Toyota BZ4X electric SUV.
It also offers a full LCD dashboard and a three-spoke steering wheel, according to News Directory 3.
Technical details
Local reports suggest that the HiAce EV will either share the platform of the current diesel-powered model or become a new dedicated EV like the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.
Toyota has yet to announce the key details regarding the electric HiAce’s technicalities, like a battery pack and motor.
Nonetheless, the Japanese legacy automaker claims that the e-van is capable of offering “[improve] delivery efficiency using connected technology … optimising delivery routes, displaying the loading location of the next package to be delivered.”
However, it remains vague whether Toyota would launch a production model or if the concept is just for a motor show exhibit.
