Swedish automaker Polestar has reportedly released an over-the-air update for the long-range dual motor variant of Polestar 2. As per InsideEVs, the OTA update enables the electric car a 68HP power boost and 15lb. ft. of torque output in the United States and Canada for a one-time payment of $1,195.

“This upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers. The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade, we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement.”

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath

For reference, the automaker charges €1,000 in Europe, where the power boost was initially released to owners last year.

How does the OTA update boost Polestar 2’s power?

The Polestar 2’s performance should be significantly improved as a result of these added capacities.

Before the update, Polestar 2 could reach 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.5 seconds. However, the acceleration time could be reduced to just 4.2 seconds if the owner decided to pay $1,195.

Polestar boasts that it takes half a second less to accelerate from 50 to 75 mph, bringing it down to 2.2 seconds. Apart from that, the Polestar 2 appears more powerful in gear when accelerating from speeds between 44 and 80 mph (70 and 129 km/h).

Moreover, the Swedish automaker claims that it should lead to a more engaging driving experience because it helps improve the vehicle’s sensitivity to the prods of the accelerator pedal.

Additionally, Polestar claims that the paid OTA update now includes a launch control feature “for those moments when even extraordinary acceleration is deemed too ordinary.”

The OTA update is available for purchase via the Polestar online shop. If you choose the $5,000 Performance pack, it comes standard with a brand-new car.

However, no information has been released regarding a similar upgrade for the single-motor Polestar 2 variant or availability in other areas.
