Tesla is actively working to make parking activity more convenient for its electric vehicle owners with the current development of the “tap to park” feature.
Tesla Chief’s hint
Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk hinted at the future introduction of a new “tap to park” feature in its Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta.
CEO Musk replied to an X post on Friday about a certain 360-degree bird’s eye feature that is apparently “irrelevant” in the autonomous vehicle space.
“True.
We are working on a feature where the car identifies probable viable parking spaces. You tap on one, exit the vehicle and it parks there.”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk
The electric vehicle giant has yet to determine the official timeline for the feature’s release. Nonetheless, it already stirred excitement among Tesla enthusiasts.
How would it work?
The upcoming intelligent parking feature will enable Tesla owners to exit their vehicles and let them park autonomously in vacant parking spots with just one tap.
What’s more interesting about this feature is the vehicle’s ability to find and identify a free parking spot on its own.
CEO Musk asserted that Tesla engineers are actively developing the new feature, which will leverage the automaker’s Vision cameras and self-driving software.
The software will present viable parking spot options for the driver to choose from. The driver will tap on one of the options, exit the car, and leave the parking activity to the vehicle itself.
Tesla’s other self-parking feature
According to Teslarati, owners of Tesla electric vehicles produced before the company discontinued using Ultrasonic Sensors (USS) can also use a similar “Autopark” technology.
However, this feature is not capable of choosing from multiple parking sports. Drivers will also need to remain inside the vehicle while it parks to ensure that someone can immediately take over if needed.
In addition, Tesla owners who already employed the Autopark feature noted that it still has areas for improvement.
Meanwhile, newer models with Vision cameras still have no access to features like Autopark, Summon, and Smart Summon.

Notably, Tesla CEO’s hint at the upcoming “tap to park” feature aligns with the recent internal release of the FSD v12 in late November. As EV-a2z previously reported, the update will officially replace more than 300,000 human-coded lines with a 99% AI system neural network for vehicle control. These neural nets will power the FSD v12 from computer vision to driving decisions.
