Based on recent reports from consumer emails, Tesla is canceling multiple solar projects across the United States. Tesla reportedly informs people that it can’t move forward with its planned projects and intends to cancel them altogether, as per InsideEVs.

Solar power and home battery storage have yet to go off like electric cars, though it appears they eventually will. Tesla has been banking on its solar product demand to grow for some time now. It could coordinate quite well with its thriving electric vehicles business when and if it truly ramps up.

Furthermore, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted “accelerating sustainable energy is our primary mission.”

In the recent past, the automaker has begun proving that it can and will scale up its energy division and sell more products. However, it remains hyperfocused on its EVs.

As Musk continues to take to “his Twitter” and various interviews to warn that dire financial emergencies are upon us and will get much worse, it seems he is making changes where required.

The company’s solar division may be the first to get several obvious cuts, which makes sense since it states its vehicle demand is not waning.

Canceled solar project

According to Electrek, Tesla sent out emails to multiple consumers across the country to inform them that their planned solar projects were canceled.

In addition, the manufacturer shares in the email that the cancellations are because its energy division is no longer servicing several places.

It seems as though Tesla recalls the locations where it will offer solar panels and related equipment. If it succeeds in some areas but loses money in others, a move like this may be required.

Hopefully, like other similar situations that are being affected by inflation, the economy, and forecasts of a recession, this move by the company will be temporary.

Tesla’s email to customers

The manufacturer’s email shared by Electrek reads as follows. At the time of writing, the publication only received a copy of the email from about “half a dozen” consumers.

Thank you for your interest in Tesla solar. Upon further review of your project, our team has determined that your home is in an area we no longer service. As we cannot complete your order, we have processed your cancellation. You will receive a full refund of any collected deposit within 7-10 business days to the card on file.

Electrek added that it checked social media and learned that there are possibly more people in a similar situation. It also said that Tesla laid off employees from its solar division.
