Tesla reportedly launched a new software update to its current electric vehicle fleet, a renowned Tesla hacker revealed. However, the new interesting features have not yet been reflected in the company’s release notes.

For context, the Musk-led automaker has begun releasing its 2023.11.4.2 software update. Its release notes are similar to the previous update, Electrek noted.

It is worth noting that Tesla frequently adds features to the new updates without really talking about them. Interestingly, it seems to be the case with this newly discovered update, Tesla hacker Green suggests. He claims that the most recent release had numerous stealth changes.

Also FSDBeta suspension interval was reduced from two weeks to one now.

“Deep Rain” update

Tesla EVs have an automatic wiper system, which automatically adjusts the wipers’ speed to the intensity of the rain or snow.

However, Tesla uses a system without a rain sensor, in contrast to the majority of other automakers. Instead, the EV giant is determining the pace for the wipers using its Autopilot cameras to feed its computer vision neural net.

Since its implementation in Tesla vehicles in 2018, numerous owners have complained that it is less precise than other systems that use rain sensors.

To address the customers’ complaints, Tesla launched an update named “Deep Rain.” It apparently utilizes a new neural net to run the feature. When Tesla launched this update in 2019 as a marginal refinement, the release notes indicated the following:

“Automatic wipers have been improved to be more likely to activate when it is lightly raining and respond to changes in rain intensity for more environments. The automatic wipers are now employing the first production deep neural network trained with over 1 million images for the detection of water droplets in a windshield and additional weather cues.”

Now, Tesla hacker Green claims that owners can easily disable it if they do not like the feature.

Apart from that, this new software update also included automatic emergency braking (AEB), which can brake for vehicles that are cutting into your lane.

Verified Twitter user @NickDominici asked Green, “What does AEB for cut-in traffic mean?” In response, Green explained the following:

“normally AEB works for something that blocks your way. So when somebody cuts in front of you (from adjacent slower lane) there’s a lot less time to react as it’s perceived as an obstacle kinda late. So this should be more proactive in those situations I imagine.”

Moreover, the update now lessens suspension for FSD Beta users violators to one week rather than two weeks. For those unaware, suspension happens after the owner’s improper use, including using while not paying attention to the road.

It is remarkable that Tesla continues releasing significant and even minor updates to improve its electric vehicles and system. In effect, it offers Tesla customers more ideal and top-notch EV technology.
