Leading American automaker Tesla is hiring many electricians in an effort to expand its solar and battery business.

Notably, the move is part of the company’s strategy to take maximum benefit from the federal tax credit, which substantially increased in 2022.

Solar power tax credits

As of now, Tesla’s electric vehicles remain its leading business. However, CEO Elon Musk has previously stated that the company’s solar and battery business will be as big as the automotive or even surpass it.

Now, the electric automaker is attempting to expand its solar and battery business further to qualify for the federal tax credits for solar power. Electrek reported that it was increased to 30% credit last year, enticing more customers to buy Tesla’s solar and battery products.

It is also worth noting that California is a leading solar market. Remarkably, the state offers beneficial net metering, which enables households to resell their extra solar energy to the grid.

Tesla’s job posting

Indeed, Tesla is now starting to grow its own installations in California by capitalizing on the current enthusiasm in the solar power business.

It also compliments Tesla’s EV business, as charging through solar technology is more cost effective and sustainable for customers.

However, sourcing qualified and skilled workers can be difficult not only for Tesla but also for most businesses nowadays.

“The Licensed Electrician is part of Tesla’s Energy Field Operations team. As a skilled member of the team, the Licensed electrician will help lead the installations of residential PV solar systems, Solar Roof, battery storage, and EV wall connectors. The ideal candidate will provide electrical expertise that will contribute to the overall success of installing Tesla’s energy products. All necessary training, tools and equipment will be provided, including a company vehicle for some positions.”

Below are some of the places in Tesla’s new job postings:

  • Livermore
  • Irvine
  • Vista
  • San Diego
  • Los Angeles
  • Hawthorne

Tesla has also provided some of the key responsibilities for the electrician positions. The employee will be responsible for finishing residential Main Panel Upgrades (MPU). He must collaborate with co-workers to assess job costs and requirements. He will also analyze and troubleshoot issues in electrical components and systems, among others.

With these kinds of initiatives, it wouldn’t be shocking if Tesla’s battery and solar businesses actually matched or even outperformed their respective auto businesses.
