Leading American automaker Tesla announced on December 19 the successful installation of more than 500,000 solar panels and roofs through its official Twitter account, as per Electrek. Remarkably, that number indicates the deployment of 4 GW of solar capacity and an 8 kW on average.

Challenges

In retrospect, Tesla established its solar business by purchasing SolarCity in 2016. Since the takeover, the company has been seriously declining. However, things have started to turn around recently. In fact, it has enjoyed a couple of record quarters in the US home solar market regardless of supply constraints in the solar business in early 2022.

Efforts

Tesla has depended heavily on independent installers to deliver its home energy solutions to clients as it seeks to control the home energy ecosystem with products like the Powerwall.

Through this strategy, Tesla will have more time to focus on scaling up the production of its solar offerings to support its new “Tesla Electric” power retailing business.

It is worth noting that Tesla’s innovative Powerwall and inverter now lead the industry of solar installations and energy storage systems. These technologies empower the company to provide grid services on a bigger scale, including “Tesla Electric” and its virtual power plant.

It is no doubt that Tesla has led the charge toward electric vehicle adoption. However, it appears that the automaker aims that its solar industry will match or exceed its automotive sector in the future. In fact, Tesla keeps developing cutting-edge solutions that might assist several clients in reducing their dependency on the grid.
