Tesla has faced numerous environmental problems since its inception in Germany. Fear of excessive water consumption and probable contamination has been one of the most prominent worries.
According to information from Tesla’s recent expansion proposal, the EV automaker intends to build one million EVs per year at Giga Berlin without using any additional fresh water.
InsideEVs reports that Tesla is already planning to expand in Germany amid reports about its planned Mexican plant. Tesla is continuously constructing new plants and ramping up production at old ones while modernizing and developing its infrastructure.
Giga Berlin to produce 1 million EVs annually
Teslarati reports that Tesla will be capable of producing one million electric vehicles annually at its factory in Germany while maintaining the same level of water use that it projected in its earlier estimates.
The newest information was reportedly included in an application that Tesla sent to the Brandenburg government this week.
According to the report, the application gives a preliminary look at the future improvements and expansions for Giga Berlin.
The American car maker may be able to increase the factory’s yearly manufacturing capacity without upsetting environmentalists concerned about the amount of water that will be used in the process.
Although Giga Berlin has yet to reach the run rate of 500,000 EVs per year that it had projected, the company reportedly has plans to aim for one million units annually.
Freshwater is enough for Tesla’s expansion
Tesla’s preliminary application states that the company has “optimized planning and production processes in such a way that the amounts of fresh water previously used as a basis and contractually agreed are also sufficient for this expansion.”
The possibility that there might need to be more fresh water inside the area encircling Giga Berlin to support Tesla’s factory and the possibility of expansion has been clearly stated on a variety of occasions.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has apparently attempted to make it clear to locals, activists, and government representatives that the automaker will take all reasonable measures to conserve water.
