American electric automaker Tesla has just launched the more affordable Standard Range variants of the Model S and X e-SUVs.

Remarkably, both models offer a $10,000 price reduction from their Long Range counterparts.

Tesla had previously produced different trims of the two popular models. Their difference usually centers around battery capacity from 40 kWh to 100 kWh.

However, Tesla eliminated those trims when it revamped the flagship EV models in 2021. It only kept the Long Range and Plaid variants, which sell at a very premium price.

The Musk-led automaker seems to have decided to expand its lineup once again with the launch of the new Standard Range trim for the said models.

Pricing and range changes

As displayed on Tesla’s online configurator, the Model S Standard Range has a base price of $78,490. It offers a $10,000 savings from the Long Range version’s pricing.

In exchange, the driving range will also drop by 85 miles. For context, the Model S SR variant has a 320-mile range between chargers. Meanwhile, the LR variant offers a 405-mile driving range. It can also accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds and speed up to 149 mph.

Likewise, the Model X SR trim’s starting price also declined by $10,000 to $88,490 from the LR’s current price of $98,490.

However, its driving range was also reduced by 79 miles to 269 miles compared to the LR trim. It has an acceleration time of 0-60 mph within 4.4 seconds. Its top speed is also 149 mph.

Launching more affordable variants for the expensive Tesla Model S and X will boost the company’s sales figures in the coming quarters.

Moreover, it can also accelerate the wide adoption of electric vehicles. Both models offer most of Tesla’s best technology and features.

Interested customers can use a referral link for another $1,000 discount for both models. By doing so, they can also get a 3-month free access to FSD Beta.
