What’s special about adaptive headlights?

Adaptive headlights are basically upgraded versions of the traditional headlights in cars. They can apparently control their glow to light the road as optimally as possible, as noted by Teslarati.

Simply put, a Tesla car can easily illuminate areas depending on its speed and driving conditions. In effect, it enhances the safety and visibility of the driver.

For context, all Tesla EVs starting in the 2020 model year already offer LED matrix headlights. However, none of them had adaptive headlights as a dedicated feature. It is unsurprising, considering that the feature is currently not yet widely available in the US market.

In contrast, autoevolution asserted that adaptive headlights are already popular in European cars.

Tesla seems to initially launch adaptive headlights in Europe

Considering the prevalence of adaptive headlights in Europe, Tesla apparently aims to initially launch the feature via an over-the-air (OTA) update in the region before its home market.

As you can see in the certification document, the feature is called “Adaptive Main Beam.” The certification hints at the possibility that other models apart from the revamped Model 3 may also receive the innovative feature in the future.
