Tesla launches Tesla Electric for Texas. Tesla’s US Energy Markets Policy Lead, Arushi Sharma Frank, and her team worked tirelessly with the Texas utility and the Texas Public Utility Commission (PUC) to bring this on, as per Teslarati.
Early this year, Tesla Energy engaged in some meetings and hearings with the utilities to illustrate how a virtual power plant (VPP) would affect the state positively.
VPPs would enable homeowners with Tesla Powerwall to aid in reducing the stress on the state’s fragile grid by allowing extra renewable generated energy to be sent back to the grid.
Notably, before the launch, the ERCOT board of directors approved a pilot project that allows Tesla virtual power plants.
Alex Guichet, head of Tesla’s Mobile App Product, tweeted on Thursday that he was excited to ship Tesla Electric in Texas, a retail electricity offer with real-time pricing for Solar and Powerwall exports.
It’s a pretty competitive rate offer. It has a peak pricing structure, but Powerwall and Tesla Electric Mode are your buffers to avoid peak prices. And the best part of all: you can see the community power flow real-time, including Tesla’s sustainable power sources (in Texas) feeding your home.

In addition, Arushi Sharma Frank shared her thoughts about the new launch.
Tesla’s new website for its Tesla Electric encourages Tesla Powerwall owners in Texas to sign up.
Tesla Electric could help save on electricity bills
Tesla stated that if you are a Powerwall owner with a retail choice in Texas, you could save on electricity bills. You also earn credits toward your bill if you contribute energy stored in the Powerwall to buffer the grid.
And as a member, you could always monitor the sources of your electricity in the Tesla app and make sure that any electricity you use from the grid is offset with 100% Texas-generated renewable energy. On average, Tesla Electric members have the potential to earn more than 50% in credits on their electricity bills compared to other similar plans, the automaker added.
Tesla Electric only available in some US States
For owners wanting to sign up, Tesla Electric is only available in select US States. In Texas, owners have to live in an area of the state that provides retail choice and with a Powerwall installed at their home.
Moreover, look for the Tesla Electric banner in the Tesla app to see if this plan is available for you.
