Tesla Giga Shanghai started production of the new Model Y this month with an improved rear sear and manual opening of the rear doors, according to Tesmanian.
Starting mid-October, new Model Y models from Tesla Giga Shanghai will have rear seat lengths increased by 30 mm on both sides, per CnEVPost.
It provides better leg support and reduces fatigue for rear passengers. Additionally, it will be equipped with the manual opening of rear doors designed for emergencies.
According to the report, the size of the Model Y remains the same. With length, width, and height of 4750/1921/1624/ and wheelbase to be 2890mm.
Information on Tesla China’s website also reveals expected delivery time and price are still the same. The entry level Model Y equipped with rear-wheel drive starts at RMB 316,900 ($44,050), the Model Y long range ( dual-motor all-wheel drive) at RMB 394,900 ($54,895), and the Model Y performance (dual-motor all-wheel drive) $417,900.
According to China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Model Y retail sales in Septemberreached 46,694 units in the country. From the first nine months of 2022, the SUV sold 219,112 units, up 135.77 percent from 92,933 units sold in the same time last year.
Meanwhile, in July 2020, reports from China showed that Tesla produced 38,719 vehicles in total, with 11,261 Model 3 and 27,458 Model Y. In August. Giga Shanghai’s production increased by approximately 76,605 units, with 56,721 Model Y and 19,884 Model 3.
With the record, the company aims to produce 200,000 vehicles in Q3. With 20,500 vehicles per week in the last quarter. That pushes the production to 266,500 units by the end of 2022. Q4 figures could represent an improvement of 33%.
With China as the world’s largest auto market, Tesla China competes with companies such as Xpeng Motors and NIO for the domestic EV market.
