Tesla seems to have pushed back the Cybertruck all-wheel drive (AWD) variant’s delivery to late 2024, contradicting Chief Executive Elon Musk’s recent announcement of a Q3 2024 start.
Tesla Cybertruck AWD pushed back
Tesla CEO Elon Musk declared at the company’s latest annual shareholder meeting that the production of the non-Foundation Series Cybertruck would finally kick off in the third quarter of the year.
In that sense, Tesla will also highly likely halt the production of the current Foundation Series soon. As a result, the cheaper AWD variant could hit the market sometime in Q3 or early Q4 2024.
However, a recent email from Tesla seems to imply that the electric vehicle giant cannot deliver on CEO Musk’s promise.
The email
Tesla’s latest email to Cybertruck reservation holders disclosed that the American electric automaker now expects to deliver “only” Foundation Series trucks in 2024, Reddit user DerpDerper909 shared on the popular online platform.
Presented below is the content of Tesla’s email to prospective Cybertruck buyers:
“As an early reservation holder, you have been invited to order your Foundation Series Cybertruck with early access to delivery. Due to continued high demand, we expect to deliver only the Foundation Series through late 2024.”
Tesla
It is worth noting that Tesla’s previous campaigns did not entail this line about the Foundation Series deliveries.
Reasons behind the delay remain unclear
Many Tesla Cybertruck reservation holders have been patiently waiting for the $79,990 AWD variant for some time now.
Tesla’s website shows customer deliveries will kick off in 2025 for orders placed today. Meanwhile, opting for the Foundation Series variant increases the cost by $20,000.
Tesla justifies the price increase with “several cosmetic upgrades, plus premium accessories and benefits,” including:
- Laser-etched Foundation Series badges and cabin graphics
- White décor
- Off-Road Light Bar*
- Powershare Home Backup capability
- Powershare Mobile Connector
- Universal Wall Connector
- Full Self-Driving capability
- 3D All-Weather Interior Liners
- Gear Locker Dividers
- Glass Roof Sunshade
- D-Rings
- L-Track Hooks
- L-Track Bottle Opener
- Center Console Tray
As of today, Foundation Series customers have not yet received most of these key features apart from the laser-etched Foundation Series badges and cabin graphics.
Tesla’s campaign could simply be a way to boost sales before the Foundation Series ends. Only time will tell if AWD Cybertruck production actually starts next quarter.
