Tata Curvv positioned for high demand and competition

Tata Motors expects its yet-to-be-launched Curvv EV to beat the iconic Nexon EV as the country’s top-selling electric passenger vehicle, HT Auto reports, citing a company official.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility’s Marketing, Sales, and Service Strategy Head Vivek Srivatsa reportedly outlined the reason behind the Indian automaker’s strong confidence in the Curvv EV.

Srivatsa asserted that the company sees the upcoming Tata Curvv EV as the largest growth prospect for its electric vehicle push. He further noted that the acti.ev platform-based electric SUV will sport a wide range of segment-first features as Tata did with the Punch EV.

“I won’t be surprised if it (Curvv EV) is our top-selling product. With the Curvv lineup, we see a big opportunity and the mid-size SUV space is one area where we want to get into.”

What’s currently known about the Tata Curvv EV?

Tata Motors initially unveiled the Curvv concept in 2022, followed by an almost production model at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024.

It will be 4,308 mm long, 1,810 mm wide, and 1,630 mm tall. It will also have a wheelbase of 2,560 mm and a boot capacity of 422 liters.

As mentioned, it will ride on Tata’s acti.ev platform with a 450 km to 500 km driving range. It will also reportedly use the similar four-spoke steering wheel as the Tata Harrier and Safari models. Other expected features include:

  • panoramic sunroof
  • a 10.25″ digital driver display
  • dual-zone climate control system
  • switchable ambient lighting
  • six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function
  • electronic parking brake
  • drive modes
  • level 2 ADAS tech
  • gesture-controlled boot opening

However, it delayed the launch timeline to sometime around September 2024, according to Drive Spark.

The Tata Curvv, which is based on a heavily updated version of the Nexon platform & slated to go on sale by the first half of 2024, is now expected to be launched first as an EV by September 2024. This launch delay pushed the electric SUV’s production start to June 2024, slightly later than originally planned.
