Japanese heavy construction machinery giant Takeuchi has finally delivered Australian equipment specialists Semco’s first Takeuchi TB20e electric compact excavator for eco-friendly construction projects.
Takeuchi TB20e arrives in Australia
According to Earthmoving Equipment Magazine, Semco has finally unleashed its first designed-and-built electric compact excavator in Australia.
The Takeuchi TB20e is among the first battery-powered compact excavators on the continent. It has the same size and performance as the diesel-powered Takeuchi TB216 compact excavator. However, it features a 24.7 kWh li-ion battery that enables up to eight hours of continuous runtime.
More impressively, operators can also plug the electric compact excavator’s onboard charger into a power outlet and remain operational whenever they need additional runtime. In this sense, the TB20e could operate 24/7 if deployed on a construction site with grid power. It comes with an onboard charger with 95v to 265v single-phase power.
It also offers an optional, off-board fast charger that can replenish the li-ion battery’s power in less than four hours with 408v to 552v three-phase power. Moreover, it has two electric motors, including one for drive and one for hydraulics.
Takeuchi TB20e paves the way for a greener construction future
Takeuchi Australia National Product Manager Stuart Marriott emphasized the Japanese heavy construction machinery manufacturer’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The company is apparently highly optimistic that the TB20e electric compact excavator can help fleets start decarbonizing their operations.
“The new battery power excavator is designed to help our customers meet their own sustainability goals without sacrificing the performance and reliability they deserve and expect from Semco and Takeuchi.”
Stuart Marriott, Takeuchi Australia National Product Manager
Indeed, the Takeuchi TB20e electric compact excavator can significantly revolutionize the construction industry. It eliminates the exhaust fumes from traditional diesel-powered excavators, substantially reducing construction site carbon emissions and air pollution.
Its electric motors also operate with less noise than diesel engines, benefitting noise-sensitive sites like residential neighborhoods or near hospitals and schools. Lower noise levels allow more flexible work schedules, even into evenings or weekends, without compromising the comfort of the nearby communities.
