The 2024 Lucid Air Sapphire, with an output of 1,234 horsepower, has just set a new record in the quarter-mile drag race. It successfully overthrew the long-standing king, the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Lucid Air Sapphire becomes the fastest production car on the quarter miles
YouTube channel DragTimes recently drove the Lucid Air Sapphire on the quarter miles, besting Tesla’s Model S Plaid to the top of the chart.
The tri-motor Lucid Air Sapphire successfully run a 1/4 mile in only 8.930 seconds. DragTimes completed two runs, recording a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 1.7 seconds for the Sapphire.
Tesla Model S Plaid’s record
The Tesla Model S Plaid previously held the record for the fastest stock four-door sedan in the quarter miles. Its quarter-mile drag race result hit 9.246 seconds.
This remarkable performance is unsurprising, considering its powerful three motors. It yields a maximum output of 1,020 horsepower almost instantly. In effect, it became the top-picked electric vehicle model for YouTubers seeking to race on the drag strip.
However, the Lucid Air Sapphire’s price is more than twofold higher than the Tesla Model S Plaid.
According to the DragTimes online leaderboard, a modified Tesla Model S Plaid can still beat Air Sapphire’s time. However, the Lucid electric sedan would likely remain at the top for some time regarding stock vehicles.
