4Italy37,186
5Spain34,380

As per the data, Spain’s public electric vehicle charging points reached 34,380 units to date, marking significant progress in the country’s electrification efforts.

The leading country in the EU’s list is the Netherlands, with a whopping 111,821 public EV charging points. Germany trails behind it by a wide margin with 87,674 units.

France ranked third with 83,317 public EV chargers, followed by Italy with 37,186 units.

Meanwhile, the report noted that the EU countries with the least public charging points are the following: Latvia (660), Lithuania (477), Estonia (300), Cyprus (69), and Malta (13).

Spain is still short of its 2023 target

Spain aims to deploy over 100,000 EV chargers by the end of 2023 under its Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.

That considered, experts believe that Spain still has to make significant progress toward its lofty goals. Furthermore, EV adoption in the country is also exceptionally low, only 9% of the overall volume.

Despite getting in the EU’s top five, Spain must still exert extra efforts to boost its electrification efforts. Nonetheless, it is indeed remarkable progress, which may be the start of something.
