American automaker Rivian has finally arrived in Canada with its two battery-electric vehicles: the R1T pickup and R1S SUV. According to InsideEVs, it was the company’s first international delivery of the said BEVs after it was again granted a sales permit in September from Transport Canada.
Celebration
At Vancouver’s Rocky Mountaineer Station, Rivian hosted a launch party to commemorate this significant accomplishment. Both media representatives and reservation holders were there.
“Hello, Canada! We celebrated our first international deliveries this week with a customer open house. Our team loved meeting more than 1,500 area families, friends, kids and dogs and giving them a closer look at R1S and R1T. Thanks for the warm welcome, BC.”
The photos above show that both Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S were present in large numbers. Remarkably, one of the cars had the new Ocean Coast interior, as per Drive Tesla Canada.
Delivery
The company’s employees in Vancouver received the first batch of vehicles. Meanwhile, client deliveries should begin before the end of this year, as per the automaker.
Rivian supplied 6,584 electric vehicles in the US over the previous quarter (all types – R1T, R1S, and EDV vans for Amazon).
Furthermore, the automaker plans to sell 25,000 EVs this year and is aggressively scaling up manufacturing. That said, more than 13,000 units must be delivered in the fourth quarter. For reference, it delivered 12,000 units in the first three quarters of this year.
Reservations
Over 114,000 R1T and R1S pre-orders have been placed in the US and Canada as of now (up from 98,000 as of the end of June).
It is worth noting that Rivian also plans to penetrate the European market after it achieved its targets in North America.
Most likely, the automaker will start by striving to reduce quarterly losses and optimize all of its operations. In fact. even the R1T model with a huge battery and range of 400 miles has been delayed until 2024.
