Swedish automaker Polestar made a significant announcement on Thursday, solidifying its commitment to adopting the Tesla-developed North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.
Following closely in the footsteps of its parent company Volvo, Polestar revealed that it would be implementing the same innovative charging plug from the Musk-led automaker across its entire electric vehicle lineup.
It is also worth noting that this decision by Polestar and its parent company aligns with the agreements already made by prominent automakers such as Ford, General Motors, and Rivian.
Polestar EVs to access Tesla Supercharger Network starting in 2024
By mid-2024, Polestar EVs in the United States and Canada will have access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network through adapters supplied by the company.
Furthermore, starting in 2025, all new Polestar vehicles will come equipped with the NACS port as a standard feature, simplifying the charging process for owners.
In an effort to provide the utmost convenience to customers purchasing a Polestar EV with the NACS port, the company has announced that it will still include a Combined Charging System (CCS) adapter. This adapter will enable owners to utilize both the Tesla Supercharger network and the existing CCS DC fast chargers network, offering greater flexibility and ease of charging.
“This is a great win for our North American customers! We salute the pioneering work Tesla has done to speed up the adoption and increase the popularity of electric vehicles, and it’s great to see the Supercharger network being made available in this way.
With 12,000 charging points today, a number that will only keep growing, this move will greatly increase the rate of EV adoption in a key automotive region.”

Through its Tesla Charging Twitter page, the automaker publicly welcomed the Swedish automaker to its growing NACS family.
Polestar’s North American lineup
As of now, Polestar only offers one EV model in North America—the Polestar 2.
However, the brand has an exciting lineup of three additional models in the pipeline. The eagerly awaited Polestar 3 SUV is anticipated to begin customer deliveries in the US in early 2024, followed by the Polestar 4 coupe SUV later in the same year.
Furthermore, future Tesla Model S rival Polestar will launch in late 2024, adding to the brand’s growing portfolio of electrified vehicles.
Industry-wide shift continues as more automakers engage in talks with Tesla for NACS plug
This widespread adoption of Tesla’s NACS demonstrates the industry’s recognition of the importance of standardized charging infrastructure.
Notably, renowned companies like Volkswagen and Hyundai are reportedly discussing integrating the NACS port with Tesla. Apart from these, other automakers are also reported to contemplate joining the NACS transition, including Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz.
As a result, further announcements embracing this standardized charging infrastructure are expected to emerge in the coming days and weeks.
