In a stunning achievement, the Polestar 2 claimed the title of a top-selling electric company car in 2022, cementing its place as a game-changer in the industry. This remarkable achievement was made even more impressive because it earned a spot in the top ten overall company cars in Germany, the birthplace of luxury vehicles and a hotbed of automotive innovation.

Polestar 2: A top choice for German corporate fleets

LeasePlan, the world’s largest fleet management service provider, revealed that the Polestar 2 was Germany’s most in-demand company car in 2022. Polestar’s first-ever fully electric vehicle outperformed Tesla’s Model 3 Long Range and Model Y Long Range, taking the top two spots with its different variants. The Polestar 2 AWD long-distance model was the most popular choice, while the FWD variant, which has been upgraded to RWD, came in second. The Polestar 2’s success is indicative of the rising demand for eco-friendly vehicles in the corporate sector, as businesses increasingly prioritize sustainability and environmentally conscious practices. The Polestar 2 is known for its excellent driving performance, advanced safety features, and sleek design, making it an attractive option for businesses looking to incorporate electric cars into their fleets.

The Polestar 2’s popularity in Germany has earned it a spot in the top ten popular company cars, inching closer to Volkswagen and Ford’s top-ranking positions. According to Christopher Schmidt, commercial director at LeasePlan Germany, this milestone underscores the need for stronger incentives for electric cars. He believes that by creating such incentives, more company drivers will be encouraged to switch to electric driving, helping to promote a greener future.

Despite the lack of additional incentives, the Polestar 2 is steadily gaining traction in a fiercely competitive market. First unveiled by Polestar in February 2019, this premium fully electric performance fastback was designed to rival the Tesla Model 3.

The rise of the Polestar 2 in key markets

The Polestar 2 electric vehicle (EV) has quickly established itself as one of the most popular EVs in several key markets since its launch in mid-2020 in original markets such as Norway, Sweden, Germany, the UK, and Belgium. Throughout its relatively short existence, the Polestar 2 has undergone several over-the-air (OTA) updates to enhance the driving experience with new features. Earlier this year, the 2024 Polestar 2 was unveiled with an upgraded facelift and several exciting improvements, including larger batteries, more powerful motors, rear-wheel drive (RWD), and Polestar SmartZone, which employs intelligent cameras and sensors to improve safety. These upgrades have garnered considerable attention from EV enthusiasts and industry insiders alike, cementing Polestar’s position as a leading innovator in the EV space.
