“We are excited to introduce the successor to the Opel Grandland compact SUV, which will be produced entirely at our Eisenach assembly plant,” said a Stellantis spokesperson. “This investment not only showcases our commitment to innovation and sustainable practices but also our dedication to providing our customers with the best possible products.”
Stellantis announces its latest move towards a fully electrified future by introducing a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to be produced at its Eisenach plant in Germany. The vehicle will be based on the cutting-edge ‘STLA Medium’ platform, underpinning all new models from Stellantis starting next year.
Stellantis sets an ambitious target for electric vehicle sales in Europe and the U.S. by 2030
This momentous decision marks Opel’s bold commitment to achieving a fully electric product lineup in Europe by 2028. With the addition of the BEV to Eisenach’s output, Stellantis is furthering its dedication to sustainable mobility and revolutionizing the automotive industry.
“The STLA Medium platform is the cornerstone of our electrification strategy, and we are proud to produce our first BEV on this advanced platform at our Eisenach plant,” said a spokesperson for Stellantis. “This move supports Opel’s ambitious goal of a fully electric product lineup in Europe and demonstrates our commitment to a cleaner, greener future for all.”
The Opel Grandland is not the only eco-friendly vehicle produced at the facility – plug-in hybrid versions are also rolling off the assembly line. Stellantis, a top automotive group in terms of sales, has set a goal of achieving 100% of its European passenger car sales and 50% of its U.S. passenger car and light-duty truck sales through battery electric vehicles by 2030. Other renowned brands under the Stellantis umbrella include Peugeot, Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Jeep.
With its origins tracing back to 1992 under the General Motors (GM.N) regime, the Eisenach plant in Germany’s Thuringia region has a long-standing history of vehicle production. Stellantis has disclosed that the plant has produced an impressive total of 3.7 million vehicles as of 2022, firmly establishing it as a key player in the company’s operations.
