Chinese electric automaker NIO proudly announced Thursday that its AI-powered NOMI GPT voice assistant has surpassed the 10 million user interactions threshold, CnEVPost reports.
NIO’s AI-powered voice assistant hits 10M user interactions
NIO reportedly made the announcement through its social media platforms, which came only 76 days after the company released the latest version of the NOMI GPT on April 12, 2024.
NIO outlined that 8,747 users have utilized NOMI GP for over 30 minutes. In addition, the user who conversed with Nomi GPT the most in a day recorded more than 200 interactions with the voice assistant.
NOMI GPT goes beyond music and navigation
In hindsight, NIO introduced the NOMI in 2017 alongside the debut of its inaugural production electric car – ES8.
NOMI is one of the earliest virtual voice assistants from a Chinese automaker in the world’s largest auto market.
Initially, NOMI can only help users by performing basic tasks such as follows:
- playing music
- navigating
- making phone calls
- taking photos
- locating battery swap stations
In a significant development, NIO upgraded NOMI’s capabilities with the arrival of the NOMI GPT on April 12. The company leveraged its cars’ computing power to develop the new version based on AI large language models, as CEO and Chairman William Li said in the Q4 2023 earnings call.
The innovative voice assistant can now perform more advanced tasks such as trip planning, role-playing, and text creation in its interactions with users.
Compatibility
NOMI GPT is compatible with vehicle models equipped with the Banyan system.
For context, NIO utilized the Banyan system in its NT 2.0-based models:
Meanwhile, the following older NT 1.0-based models employed the Aspen system:
The increasing popularity of smart chatbots like ChatGPT prompted Chinese automakers to actively develop their own large language models to remain competitive. According to Nio, this technology enhances NOMI’s emotional intelligence, making it a more insightful companion while driving.
