Japanese legacy automaker Nissan is accelerating the shift to sustainable last-mile mobility in the United Kingdom as it partners with a leading European electric micro-mobility vehicle brand, RideApart reported.
Nissan expands UK offering with Silence EVs
Nissan partnered with Acciona’s automaker Silence to become an authorized distributor of its micro-mobility EVs in the UK from October 2024 after launching in other key markets like France, Italy, and Germany.
With this partnership, Nissan gained distribution and service rights for Silence EVs in the UK, including the S04 quadricycle vehicles and electric motorcycles.
Notably, the move is a crucial part of Nissan’s “The Arc” strategy, aiming to form more strategic alliances in future mobility solutions. As part of this strategy, Nissan also plans to launch 11 new electric vehicle models in the following years to cater to the evolving demands of the urban setting.
“The needs of drivers in today’s towns and cities are changing – their commute, their attitudes to mobility, and what constitutes a realistic and efficient way for them to get around urban areas. To respond to this, we need to think smarter, smaller and lighter. Silence’s light electric vehicles (EV), partnered with Nissan’s strong distribution network, offers new, exciting, and clever options for urban mobility in Europe, shaping a more sustainable future.”

Silence’s EV portfolio
Silence currently has four electric micro-mobility vehicles in its product lineup, including three two-wheelers and one microcar.
Silence’s S01 and S01+ are commuter electric two-wheelers, offering a convenient and reliable transportation option for people who go to work every day. On the other hand, the S02 features a luggage rack and a trolly-type removable battery pack for more utilitarian riders.
Lastly, the brand’s sole four-wheeler offering is the S04 Nanocar. As the name suggests, it is a tiny electric car that directly competes with the likes of the Citroen Ami. It has two available variants, including the following:
- L6e – 109 miles range, 28mph top speed
- L7e – 92 miles range, 54mph top speed
“Powered by two 5.6kWh batteries, it offers quick, simple, convenient charging options, including direct charging, battery swapping at dedicated stations (available with subscription where available), and home or office charging through a removable battery pack.”

Shift to sustainable micro-mobility
European customers continue to turn their heads towards micro-mobility options. As the report emphasized, they are gradually abandoning their old gas-powered cars to switch to smaller, cleaner, and cheaper modes of transportation.
“Through this Nissan partnership with ACCIONA, we’re ensuring that many more people across Europe have access to electric mobility and can embark on their EV journey.”
Gareth Dunsmore, Managing Director e-Micro Mobility at Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe & Oceania)
The growing popularity of electric two-wheelers like motorcycles and mini electric cars across Europe represents an apparent shift towards more sustainable and efficient urban transportation in the region.
