Chinese electric automaker NIO reported a 31% year-on-year growth in its electric vehicle deliveries to 6,658 units in April 2023.

Of that total, crossovers/SUVs accounted for 1,713 units. Meanwhile, the 4,945 units were contributed by its sedan sales. It must also be noted that most of NIO sales are in its home market, China.

In April 2023, #NIO delivered 6,658 vehicles, representing an increase of 31.2% year-over-year.

NIO Car Sales – April 2023

NIO asserted that the ET5 and ES7 accounted for most deliveries but no longer provided an overview of sales by model.

April 2023 deliveries:

  • Crossover/SUVs (EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, ES8): 1,713, down 61% YoY
  • Sedans (ET5, ET7): 4,945, up 614% YoY
  • Total: 6,658, up 31% YoY

NIO Car Sales – YTD

Year to date, NIO’s EV deliveries hit over 37,000 units, representing a YoY increase of 22%.

Sales of crossovers and SUVs have dropped by approximately 60% year over year, which is rather concerning. However, it could be temporary as it may be connected to the transition to next-gen EVs.

YTD deliveries:

  • Crossover/SUVs (EC6, ES6, EC7, ES7, ES8) YTD: 12,143, down 60% YoY
  • Sedans (ET5, ET7) YTD: 25,556, up from 856 YoY
  • Total YTD: 37,699, up 22% YoY

In retrospect, the Chinese automaker’s FY 2022 sales recorded over 122,000 electric cars worldwide. That said, NIO sold 327,255 EVs in total, with the 300,000th unit built on December 12.

InsideEVs reported that the NIO Technology (NT1.0) platform (EC6, ES6, ES8) is transitioning to the new NT2.0 platform, which comprises the ES7 (also known as EL7 in Europe) and ET5 cars.

Furthermore, NIO debuted an all-new ES6 at the Shanghai Auto Show and began deliveries of the brand-new EC7 model in April. The ES6 should start shipping to customers in May, one month before the brand-new ES8.

“Derived from NT2.0, the All-New ES6 will bring user experiences beyond expectations in terms of design, performance, comfort, intelligence, safety, and sustainability.”

“The 2023 ET7 boasts more than 15 product upgrades, providing users with a more comfortable driving and riding experience, a more refined interior and a more intuitive digital experience.”
