SAIC-owned MG has just introduced a “lifetime” battery warranty for electric vehicles, marking a first in the industry. According to the press release, this innovative policy also includes two other critical components.
MG now offers lifetime battery warranty in Thailand
Former British automaker MG is apparently the first to offer a lifetime warranty for electric vehicle systems, including the high-voltage battery, electric drive unit, and power electronic bloc.
This offer can potentially alleviate customers’ concerns over battery life and repair/replacement costs, which continue to impede the wider shift to electric vehicles.
However, MG’s industry-leading lifetime warranty for key EV components is only currently available in Thailand.
“SAIC Motor-CP and MG Sales (Thailand), manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand, boost customer confidence and bring the country’s automotive industry to the next level as part of the brand’s 100th anniversary, proclaiming itself as the first and only brand that offers an extended “Lifetime Warranty” for MG electric vehicles.”

Policy coverage
As mentioned, MG’s new lifetime warranty policy covers the high-voltage battery, electric drive unit, and power electronic bloc.
Eligible MG electric cars are as follows:
- New MG4 Electric, a popular electric global-model hatchback
- New MG MAXUS 9, electric 7-seat premium e-MPV
- New MG MAXUS 7, electric 7-seat premium e-MPV
- New MG CYBERSTER, 2-seat electric convertible sport roadster
What makes this warranty offer more enticing is its unlimited mileage coverage. The policy is also available for both new and current owners of the above-mentioned models. In addition, MG does not limit the lifetime warranty to the first owners of the eligible EVs. Therefore, it not only boosts the confidence of new car buyers but also extends the benefits to used car customers.
“It is applicable to both new and current MG customers which reflect the company’s determination and commitment for long-term customer care.”

MG’s move to offer a lifetime battery warranty can significantly relieve one of the major hindrances in wider electric vehicle adoption, aligning with its vision to offer “top-notch” customer satisfaction. All that said, it would be exciting to see MG extend this industry-leading lifetime warranty for three key EV components to its other markets beyond Thailand.
