Marelli has agreed with an unnamed “major global carmaker” to supply its Battery Management System (BMS) for use in the latter’s upcoming electric vehicles.

For fully electric vehicles in segments A, B, and C, Marelli will supply both the hardware and the software for the battery management systems (BMS).

Production to begin in 2026

The year 2026 is projected to be the year production will get underway.

Because the BMS will be built on a distributed system, the size of the wiring harness will be able to be cut down significantly.

The design incorporates all of the hardware associated with battery cells onto a Cell Module Controller (CMC), which is positioned directly on top of the cell module that is being monitored.

This eliminates the requirement for most of the cabling; only a few sensor cables and communication wires between adjoining CMC modules are necessary.

Consequently, each CMC is more self-contained than the designs that came before it, and it can handle measurements and communications as required.

We are glad of this assignment, particularly as this is for a technology which has a key role for energy management in electric vehicles,

This further reinforces our collaboration with global carmakers and recognizes the consolidated experience achieved by Marelli over the years in the development of BMS with different architectures to fit the specific needs of our customers and co-create with them the vehicles of tomorrow

Hann Prenn, President of Marelli Electric Powertrain Division stated on their lates collaboration
