What’s currently known about the Luxeed S9?

The Luxeed S9 is apparently dubbed as the “larger Tesla Model Y.” That said, it would be interesting to see how this new model matches the technologies and performance of the world’s top-selling vehicle.

Exterior design

The Luxeed S9’s exterior design is apparently similar to the S7 electric sedan. It sports a sloped bonnet line, thin LED headlights, and retractable door handles.

The spy photos also revealed a LiDAR sensor on the roof, slanted rear pillars, a ducktail spoiler, and a single LED taillight. Its wheelbase measures 2.95 meters, according to CarNewsChina.com.

Interior features

Inside, the S9 boasts a compact oval-shaped three-spoke steering wheel. The front seats feature a sporty design with headrests.

It also has an enormous floating touchscreen at the center console. In addition, it features an LCD instrument panel and front pillar Face ID sensor. Its center tunnel also has wireless charging pads and two cup holders.

Technical details

GIZMOCHINA reported that the Luxeed S9 will utilize Chery’s E0X electric platform, while its rear axle electric motor will come from Huawei.

Its electric motor generates a maximum output of 215 kW (292 hp). Meanwhile, the Four-Wheel-Drive (FWD) variant’s front axle motor can produce up to 150 kW (204 hp).

The Luxeed S9 will also have three battery configurations, including the 62 kWh LFP, 82 kWh M3P (NMC+LFP), and 100 kWh NMC.

In hindsight, Luxeed has already launched the initial model S7 on November 28 to compete with the Tesla Model 3. It currently has four trims with a price range of RMB 249,800 ($34,948) to RMB 349,800.

On the other hand, the S9 is expected to have pricing competitive with the Tesla Model Y in China (266,400 yuan) when it hits the Chinese market in the second half of 2024.
