American electric vehicle startup Lucid Motors has announced Wednesday major upgrades for its longest-range 2024 Air Grand Touring EV, including a faster charging capability.
2024 Lucid Air GT Improvements
According to the press release, the latest upgrade to the 2024 Air Grand Touring will enable its owners to drive farther and replenish range faster in a “broader range of environments and conditions.”
“The Air Grand Touring is our longest-range car – in fact the longest-range EV available today – and is now further optimized with a multitude of powertrain updates.”
Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson
As part of the upgrade, the 2024 Air Grand Touring gets a DC charging capability improvement of approximately 15 to 30%. The company stated that improved automatic preconditioning while driving to the charging station allows faster charging upon plugging in.
The 2024 Air Grand Touring also now has a heat pump similar to the Air Sapphire, enabling it to yield more driving range even in extremely cold environments. Lucid outlined that the GT trim still yields an EPA-estimated range of 516 miles despite the stricter testing procedure, overtaking any current electric vehicle model in the US market.
Moreover, Lucid also shared that it upgraded the 2024 Air Grand Touring’s proprietary electric motor design, battery tech, and thermal features to optimize energy savings.
2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring Gets a 12.5% Price Cut
As indicated on Lucid’s official website, the 2024 Lucid Air Grand Touring has a base price of $109,900. It represents a notable price drop of 12.5% from the prior $125,600 starting cost.
Presented below are the pricing of Lucid Air’s four available trims, along with their EPA-rated range:
2024 Lucid Air trim | Starting Price | EPA-estimated Range |
Lucid Air Pure | $69,900 | 419 miles |
Lucid Air Touring | $77,900 | 411 miles |
Lucid Air Grand Touring | $109,900 | 516 miles |
Lucid Air Sapphire | $249,000 | 427 miles |
Lucid Q1 2024 Delivery
Lucid’s electric vehicle deliveries reached a total of 1,967 units in the first quarter of the year. This figure broke the brand’s Air delivery record of 1,932 in the fourth quarter of 2022.
This remarkable achievement is largely due to the company’s price cuts on 2024 Air EVs by up to $7,500 in February. Moving forward, the EV startup aims to produce at least 9,000 EVs this year, including the 2,391 units built in the first quarter.
