British multinational automaker Jaguar Land Rover has just released the first teaser photos of its upcoming Range Rover Electric that is set to hit the market in 2024, The Sun reports.

Notably, the model will follow the brand’s iconic design language to ensure that it will maintain the classic Range Rover appearance that fans love.

What’s currently known about the model?

The new Range Rover Electric will be an all-electric vehicle model, marking JLR’s entry into the highly competitive market.

Top Gear emphasized that the automaker will equip the new model with a performance match to a “flagship” Range Rover V8.

For context, the SV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 4.5 seconds. It also boasts a top speed of 260kph.

In that sense, JLR will use these figures as a basis for the new Range Rover Electric. The model might even exceed SV’s performance as the automaker asserted that it will “continue to set the standard.”

It will apparently ride on the automaker’s Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA). The existing Solihull factory will produce the new motor.

Testing program

JLR engineers have already started the Range Rover Electric prototype testing as they seek to develop the “quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created.”

Impressively, JLR launched an aggressive testing program for the new Range Rover Electric, with temperatures reaching -40 degrees to +50 degrees Celsius in locales like Sweden and Dubai.

The automaker is apparently testing the durability of the new model’s underfloor and battery. Its chassis’ strength and pointiness are also being tested.

JLR aims to make the new EV compatible with 800-volt chargers that currently dominate the main roads and motorways.

“Across the globe, we’re seeing the highest levels of client demand in our 53-year history.”

Geraldine Ingham, Range Rover managing director

JLR to invest £15B in electrification initiatives

JLR has been among the numerous automakers who have lagged behind the shift to electric vehicles compared to its rivals. For instance, its closest competitors, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, managed to introduce a series of luxury e-SUVs like the iX and EQC.

Now, JLR will attempt to catch up in the highly competitive EV market with its upcoming Range Rover Electric in 2024.

“For more than seven decades, Land Rover has challenged what’s possible.

Today, electric power enhances the world’s most capable and luxurious SUVs with new levels of sustainability, responsiveness, and refinement.”

Jaguar Land Rover

In hindsight, JLR pledged earlier this year to invest a whopping £15 billion in its electrification efforts. It is a crucial part of the automaker’s efforts to become an all-electric brand by the end of the decade.

Interested buyers of the upcoming Range Rover Electric can now register on a waiting list to become the first to obtain the inaugural model. JLR is yet to announce the pricing of the new model, but for reference, the diesel hybrid Range Rover has a base price of £103,000.
