Electric aircraft developer Jetson has officially secured the necessary certification for ultralight eVTOL flights in Italy.
Certification details
According to the press release, Jetson’s ONE aircraft received the initial creational ultralight eVTOL registration certificate from the Aero Club d’Italia (AeCI) on October 5, 2023.
This I-X078 certification permits licensed pilots to conduct flights using ONE pre-production eVTOL aircraft in the country’s uncontrolled airspace.
Apart from being the first aircraft to receive such certification, Jetson ONE also made history on a global scale as it completed its first flight in the US the same day it obtained the I-X078 registration.
Jetson to launch testing and validation for the eVTOL ONE
Jetson also gained operational authorization from the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC). This particular certification allows the company to launch unmanned remote flights.
It is crucial for the company’s efforts to accelerate its testing and validation phase for the Jetson ONE eVTOL.
“The operational authorization by ENAC for UAS allows us to gradually expand the flight envelope of the Jetson ONE, all without exposing a test pilot to potential risk when we explore the limits of the vehicle. As a company, safety is our number 1 priority, and this authorization is a great enabler.
Our airworthiness and compliance team has worked rigorously with the Italian authorities to obtain these new milestones. We expressly wish to thank the forward-looking team at ENAC for supporting our safety initiatives.”
