South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor, through its local arm, sold 70,001 vehicles in the United States in May 2023. That figure represents an almost 18% year-on-year increase, per InsideEVs.
Likewise, Hyundai’s year-to-date sales recorded a noticeable YoY growth of 16% to 325,262.
Apart from that, the legacy automaker’s E-GMP-based electric vehicle sales also enjoyed strong results in the fifth month of the year. Notably, it includes the award-winning Ioniq 5 crossover/SUV and Ioniq 6 sedan.
Hyundai US BEV sales – May 2023
Hyundai sold record-breaking 3,417 battery-powered vehicles in May, indicating a YoY growth of an astounding 78% and a 5% share of the brand’s overall volume.
However, this result excluded Kona Electric as it currently has no available data, the report noted.
That said, the main driver of this strong May performance is the famous Ioniq 5, recording a YoY sales growth of 28% to 2,446 units. Indeed, this significant improvement is remarkable, considering that the model does not qualify for the US tax credit of up to $7,500.
Meanwhile, its sibling Ioniq 6’s sales also fared well, with sales of 971 units.
