Chinese tech giant Huawei and state-owned automaker BAIC Group finally introduced their first jointly developed luxury electric sedan, the Stelato S9, to the world’s largest auto market on Tuesday, ArenaEV reported.
Stelato S9 EV hits the market
Stelato, the new automotive brand established by Huawei and BAIC Group, formally introduced the Stelato S9 at a launch event on August 6. Deliveries will kick off the following day.
For context, the Stelato brand is part of the tech giant’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) business.
Huawei and BAIC Group’s partnership combines their knowledge, expertise, and resources to offer competitive electric vehicle models. Huawei manages the software and critical components, while BAIC supervises the platform and manufacturing.
The Stelato S9 comes with two available trims, including the following:
- Max – RMB 399,800 ($55,900)
- Ultra – RMB 449,800 ($62,900)
Impressively, the Stelato S9 managed to secure 2,500 orders in just the first day of market launch.
Design and other features
The Stelato S9 is a mid-to-large-sized executive electric sedan, which is 5,160 mm long, 1,987 mm wide, and 1,486 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 3,050 mm.
Inside, the new electric vehicle offers a generous usable space of 3,460 mm. As emphasized by Huawei’s intelligent vehicle solutions business unit chairman Richard Yu, it advances the Stelato S9’s position ahead of mainstream luxury sedans. It also offers a 12.3″ digital instrument panel and a 15.6″ central touchscreen, among others.
The Stelato S9 also boasts a drag coefficient of 0.193 Cd, which is apparently the lowest of any production luxury sedan worldwide.
The new Stelato EV continues the design language of the Luxeed S7 and the Aito M9, which Huawei co-developed with Chery and Seres Group, respectively. For instance, it has minimalist lines and a distinctive full-width light strip. It also features diamond-process headlamps, highlighting its blend of style and aerodynamics. It also has a smooth roofline, frameless doors, and smart electronic side mirrors.
Stelato’s S9 also sports a full-width taillight and a subtle ducktail spoiler, accentuating its sophisticated rear design.
In addition, it is also the first model to offer Huawei’s latest assisted driving software, ADS (Advanced Driving System) 3.0. This software promises to enable a more powerful and intelligent driving experience for owners.
Technical specs
The new Stelato S9 features a 100 kWh battery pack and innovative 800V architecture, enabling it to deliver a driving range of 200 km range within just five minutes of charge.
Overall, the luxury electric sedan boasts a CLTC-rated range of 721 kilometers for the Ultra variant. Meanwhile, the Max variant offers up to 816 kilometers of driving range.
